McGrath has recently completed the refurbishment of the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre Stage, for the Aotea Centre.
The system incorporates an elevating theatre stage designed to efficiently transfer stage equipment from the orchestra pit to stage height. The elevating theatre stage not only allows the transfer of goods at different levels, but provides flexible seating arrangement design, based on the capacity of each event. This innovative solution not only maximises theatre space but increases safety and efficiency in the handling of heavy equipment pieces.
The Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre is the centrepiece of the Aotea Centre and the largest tiered theatre in New Zealand. Originally named as the ASB Theatre in 1990 and opened to host boxing matches for the commonwealth games, by famed New Zealand soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. The theatre was later renamed in 2019 after Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. The theatre has attracted huge international acts such as Prince, Ed Sheeran, and Russian soprano Anna Netrebko, with a seated capacity of more than 2100.
